The Awkward Life of a Nerd
So if you didn't notice from the title, I am a nerd. I love singing catchy, educational songs. (How else was I supposed to memorize the periodic table?) I laugh at stupid science jokes. I'm not a huge neat freak... Okay. Maybe I am. This blog basically and acidically documents the life of an unusual and peculiar AP student with a love for science, music, theatre, reading, cooking, and other odd nerd things. By the way, my name is Brittany.

An example of intermolecular hydrogen bonding in a self-assembled dimer complex reported by Meijer and coworkers. The hydrogen bonds are the dotted lines.
A hydrogen bond is the attractive interaction of a hydrogen atom with an electronegative atom, such as nitrogen, oxygen or fluorine, that comes from another molecule or chemical group. The hydrogen must be covalently bonded to another electronegative atom to create the bond. These bonds can occur between molecules (intermolecularly), or within different parts of a single molecule (intramolecularly). The hydrogen bond (5 to 30 kJ/mole) is stronger than a van der Waals interaction, but weaker than covalent or ionic bonds. This type of bond occurs in both inorganic molecules such as water and organic molecules like DNA.

I have started narrowing down some college choices. Can anybody who is attending or has attended these colleges give me any info about them? I’m interested in majoring in elementary education and possibly minoring in chemistry.

  • Stetson University
  • Manhattan College
  • Quincy University
  • Vanderbilt University
  • Carthage College
  • Valparaiso University
  • Xavier University
  • Coe College

Thanks! Any help?
